MGH Uses New Transplant Technology

A group of MGH physicians recently gave a Portsmouth mom a new lease on life, making her the first person in New England to receive a heart transplant employing a new so-called “heart in a box” organ preservation technology. This novel technology slows a heart’s deterioration, allowing for longer transport times.  Thanks to this innovative organ transportation device, the number of heart transplants performed nationally each year could increase significantly.
